Sato sets Friday practice pace
BAR Honda's Takuma Sato set an impressive pace at the end of Friday's Free Practice sessions at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. The Japanese driver clocked a best time of 1m14.086s to finish 0.3s ahead of Alonso, and a further 0.1s ahead of Ferrari's Michael Schumacher.
Some light cloud cover maintained air temperature around the twenty-one degrees Centigrade mark and track temperature around forty-five degrees Centigrade.
Kimi Raikkonen continued to show better pace in the McLaren in fourth place ahead of the second Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello and the leading Toyota of test driver Ricardo Zonta. Cristiano da Matta, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, and Giancarlo Fisichella rounded off the top ten.
Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya finished fourteenth and twentieth respectively - Ralf managed twenty-two laps while Montoya did just six - sffering from technical problems on his Williams.
Toyota completed the highest mileage of any team with a massive 94 laps between its three driver. BAR completed 62 laps, Renault 57 laps, Ferrari 57, McLaren 38, and Williams 28.
Anthony Davidson suffered a heavy crash in his BAR Honda, hitting the tyre walls with the rear of his car, but fortunately emerging unscathed.
Meanwhile Jordan's Giorgio Panatano did not leave the garage - reportedly because of some management dispute.
