26 May 2006 - Bath, UK

This morning I got up at 7h40. I went to the TV room and watched a bit of news. I then had a small breakfast (not to get sick again), an orange and a muffin. I got dressed and at 8h30 I was ready to go out for the day! I had to wait around until 9h when everyone else was ready. We then left to go to the city centre. My friend dropped his mom, aunt and me off near the Roman Baths. I paid 8.50£ and explored the ancient baths. It was quite interesting. I joined the guided tour which was informative. I liked seeing the actual baths the best… There were also museum displays and such but that didn’t really attract my attention. Then I went into the Bath Abbey which was another typical old church.

Then we all met up outside. We planned to meet back at the same spot for 14h30 to join a free walking tour of the city. In the mean time my friend and I were off to find an Internet cafe. The first addy I had turned out it had moved out. The second addy was just 1 computer. Then finally we found one but was quite expensive so I only stayed 20 minutes. Back near the Abbey (tour starts there) I bought some nice pastries (chocolate & raisin) with a hot chocolate (that tasted more like water..). I sat on a bench in the cold/wind/rain to eat.

It was then finally time for the walking tour! Our tour guide was quite old and had huge white eyebrows. He was however quite good at his job. He brought us in small corners and unknown spots that typically a tourist wouldn’t see. It was neat! He explained about the manholes to bring coal from the street to the house, the circus design, etc. Then we all waited around the city centre while my friend made a phonecall to his girlfriend… It took so long! I had bought candies and was eating a bit of those while waiting.

We then all walked back across the River Avon to the car. We went to the hostel to rest a bit. Then I got hungry so my friend and I went to the city. We looked at a few different pubs but I didn’t like any of them or they were too crowded (and smoky) so we just did my idea of getting pizza and bringing it back to the hostel. I got a pizza and a drink for 7.83£.

In the evening before bed I had a shower but I somehow couldn’t figure out how to get it warm! So it was a cold and quick shower… Brrrr! I really didn’t like this hostel much because there was a lot of loud noises… A heavy vibration of the air conditioning system which was just outside of our room outdoors, a high-pitch noise from the water tanks/showers, and so on.
