Today, after wishing my friend's family a nice holiday, we got ready to go to Utrecht for Koninginnedag . We arrived at the train station and met up with a friend of my friend. The NS were giving away a kind of orange banner that we could wear. It was nice because there were a lot of people wearing orange clothing, orange crowns, orange everything. We bought nice bread at “C'est du pain”, I had one with ham, cheese, salad and tomato. We then went on walking through the vrijmarkt (flea market). It was nice to see all of the old crap people were trying to sell! We then went to sit on the steps of a building to rest a bit. There were people dancing Capoiera, a sort of Brazilian dance/choreography/fighting. We also walked near the Utrecht canals. There were many boats in the water; it was interesting to watch them navigate. Further on the Oudegracht, where the restaurants are near the water and have terraces, we also saw a girl fall in the water with her chair. Poor girl! We continued to walk towards the train station. We saw a poffertjes restaurant and went inside to have the special Dutch treat. They are like miniature pancakes, with butter and powder sugar. It was delicious! I then bought tulips (5 bundles for 3€, very cheap)! At first I did not want to buy them because the people selling them were two very old men, like grandpas so I thought they might have trouble understanding my Dutch. I was scared for nothing, in the end it was not a problem at all. I got nice orange colored tulips. Back in Weesp, I put my tulips in water, three vases: one in the living room, one in the kitchen and one in the dining room. Now, everywhere you look there are tulips. We had pizza for dinner and watched television.
