I woke up at about 8h without an alarm. I guess I had slept enough so I turned on the television at TV5 for the French Radio-Canada news from back home! Then after getting ready I headed downstairs in the hotel's lobby for breakfast: fresh crushed raspberries drink, hot chocolate with whipped cream, thick yogourt topped with raspberries, pancakes with jam and a delicious pastry. Then I went back upstairs to my room, packed the last of my stuff and went back downstairs to check out. I left my bag there and would pick it up later.
I first headed towards Saint Peter's Church, then Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old University building. They were all closed or having religious services so I looked at the outside only. Then passed along the Round Tower (which was also closed) and along the empty shopping street Kobmagerkade to Holmen Church once again, then further West. Along the way I bought a few postcards. I finally reached Nyhavn, the lovely canal with boats and nicely coloured houses. I wanted to see it in the morning. As I had hoped it was much quieter and less crowded than the previous afternoon!
Then following the Bredgade I walked to the Danish Resistance Museum. I toured around and saw a lot of interesting pieces/daily life things from the war time. I watched a few videos also. Then I walked a bit in Churchill Park (a nice water fountain) and along Sydhavnen (the major harbour canal) back to the Amalienborg Castle. That's where the Royal family lives. The guards were just finished the changing and a group started to walk away! I wanted to take a photo so I walked/ran to catch up with them. Finally I was close enough but the photo came out blurry! All that effort for nothing... Well not actually, it was quite fun racing through the people to make it to the guards on time! Then I went back to the Palace area and took more pictures. There was not really a place to sit around the Palace. I saw the steps but I was not sure if I was allowed to sit. So I did not. And surely enough I was right... Some other guy sat down on the stairs. The nearby guard pounded hard on the ground with his firearm looking at the guy sitting. The guy quickly got up and we both agreed it meant "get up, that's not allowed!" Then he went on sightseeing with his family. I'm glad it was him and not me that got the warning from the guard! I wanted to see inside the nearby Marble Church but it did not open until 13h30 so I waited around the area. It was worth waiting, the church had a huge impressive dome. It was a round church which was nice/different too!
After that I walked back to the Town Hall area along shopping streets. The more I was approaching Town Hall the more it was very touristy shops and cheap restaurant/fast food. Then I decided to spend some of the little remaining time at the National Museum because my Resistance Museum ticket allowed me free entrance! It was HUGE! I only had about 30 minutes so I choose the room to visit carefully... Danish history from 1600's to 2000. It was filled with interesting objects and information about Danish history. I loved it... I didn't like the fact that I had to skip through a lot and walk through the exhibition quickly. Still it was worth seeing! Then I walked back to the hotel 10 minutes away and then after getting my bag to the train station which was another 10 minutes.
I bought a train ticket to go to the airport and went to platform 5. After 1 minute waiting the train arrived. I love the good connections with airports like Schiphol and this one in Copenhagen compared to Montreal where the easiest way to transit to the airport is an expensive taxi! Within 12 minutes I was at the airport. Waited in line to check in, after 1 minute at the counter I had my boarding pass. Security was a breeze as always and then I had 2 hours to spend at the airport. I always make sure I arrive at the airport with a lot of time to spare that way I am sure that if something goes wrong I won't miss my flight. So I first had lunch/dinner, pasta with a coke. Then I had 88 DKK left over to spend (about 17.60$ Canadian) so I bought a big Toblerone chocolate bar (43 DKK) and a magazine and some M&Ms (44 DKK) leaving me with 1 DKK coin for souvenir! Then I was tired of walking to I went to the gate to sit. The plane left on schedule at 18h and I made it home in Amsterdam by 20h. Tired but happy about a nice weekend in Copenhagen!
