Long Day At Work Today!

But first, left go back to the weekend!

Sunday I took it easy and watched the race Formula One in the afternoon. It was an alright race, I wish Jenson would have won though! And it was nice to see Jacques back racing! That evening, I watched a real chick flick in my room (Princess Diaries was on television). I wanted to take it easy because I had to wake up really early to be at work in North Sydney by 7h30!! I went to a different childcare centre this time. On the way there in the bus and on the train I listened to Jamie Hutchings live at University of New South Wales bootleg. We made a recording of that concert a few weeks ago and it turned out pretty good!! I liked listening to that a lot... Very soothing/relaxing acoustic music. I made morning tea, then played with the children until lunch arrived and I had to reheat it and serve it. I then prepared afternoon tea, cleaned up, played a bit more with the children, and left. It was pretty relax! That evening, I went out with Andy and one of his mates to the London Hotel just up the street. We had dinner there, I had a REALLY good chicken ceasar salad. The best salad I've ever had I think! Later, we sat outside with a view on Darling Street and the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the right. It was really nice, but a bit chilly. At home, there was an insect I did not like in my room so I decided to stay downstairs on the couch for a little while and fell asleep watching television. At around 4h, I went to my bed, and the insect had left. I don't know where it went and don't want to know either! Hope it does not come back!!

Today I got up at 6h20 to go to work by 8h. Again an assignment in North Sydney, but yet again a different childcare centre. This time though my duties involved cooking for about 50 children and it was a lot of work! I just had 5 hours to make morning tea, cook lunch and make afternoon tea as well as clean the million of dishes that kept being brought back! In the end, the only thing I did not complete was the vegemite/cream cheese cruskits cookies for the afternoon tea. The lady seemed a bit surprised, but hey! I thought it was not bad at all seeing that it was my first time with their centre, in their kitchen, with their schedule! By the time I got out of there, I had worked an extra 15 minutes for free (wanted to finish cleaning the pile of dishes!) and had pain in my back. Still! It makes good money on next thursday!

Not Feeling So Good... Got A Little Cold

Let's go back in time...

On Tuesday evening (28 Sept.), after helping with cooking dinner, it was a night out to see the Metallica documentary "Some Kind Of Monster" at the Hoyts cinema on George Street. First we bought the tickets for 4 people (Andy, me and two of Andy's friends, 10.50$ each) and then we went to the City of Sydney RSL Club to meet up with one of his friends and have one beer.

Continued...

RSL stands for Returned & Services League of Australia. It was created "To ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependants; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia. (from the RSL website)" When entering, you have to be a member of any RSL club or live far enough of the RSL to get in without becoming a member. I showed my driver's liscence from Canada and just had to fill out the little paper on the computer where you fill out your name, address and signature. The computer scans it and spits it out again. You may be required to show that paper at any time inside the RSL club, it is kind of your member card. After, we went to the cinema and met up with the second friend. We were all set to watch the movie! It was a good movie, although pretty long, it was very interesting and I learned a lot about how making a record can be like! Some very funny parts and some touching parts too. Got back home at 1am after we brought the two friends back to their homes. I went straight to bed as I was not feeling too good, my throat was aching and I was so cold (though it was not cold!). I slept for 12 hours! I woke up a few times because I was so warm and in sweat, then took the blanket off. Later I woke up again because I was cold. And so forth. I got up at 1pm the next day. I had switched my mobile phone off to make sure I would not be woken up by any temp agency calling me to work.

So, yesterday Wednesday, after waking up at 1pm, I had to quickly get ready for a job interview in the city. I was on the 2:12pm bus and got there way in time for my 3pm interview. It is to work as a photographer with kids and Santa in a major department store called David Jones. I walked around the David Jones store to see what kind of products they sell and saw many things I would like, but did not buy anything. At 2h50pm I went in the HR department and they had me fill out a quick questionnaire. I then met Paul. I think it went well but it was the quickest interview ever! 10 minutes and I was out of there. He said that if I don't hear from him on Monday it means I was not chosen. I hope I am chosen! I'd make around 15,50$ an hour and would have a fix schedule between 15 november and 24 december. Means I would have to go travel around Australia soon after hearing I got the job. We'll see how it all goes on Monday. After that, I went to buy some juice at a juice bar (yummy orange and raspberry!) and also went to the pharmacy to see if they would have better medicine than what I have (Tylenol) but I only found cold medicine that had something for cough and runny nose while I was looking for something against headache, shivers and sore throat. I thought I'd just stick to Tylenol and see how that goes. Back in Balmain I stopped at the Woolworth supermarket to buy "comfort food": peach slices, grapes, Nutella, Sprite, cheese and chicken cup-a-soup. At home I took it easy and watched Crime Night on Discovery Channel with Andy's mother.

Today, I woke up mid-morning and Andy was going to leave for a music store in Bondi Junction but he offered to wait until I had breakfast and changed to go so that I could join him. In the huge shopping centre, we went to JB Hi-Fi and I bought a few Something For Kate CDs. I have had the MP3s for a time now, but I wanted to get the originals, and at 10$ each for 2 of them, one at 12$ and the other 25$, I could not pass! So I got Elsewhere for 8 Minutes, Beautiful Sharks, Q&A with Dean Martin and Phantom Limbs (2 CDs). All for 57$! Good deal! It is the first thing I bought for personal pleasure since I got here! I think that's pretty good. Back home, I watched the recorded Survivor from Tuesday night. I also checked my Commonwealth Bank account online and saw my first pay was deposited: 141$ for 9 hours of work. I guess it's alright pay!
