I took the bus to the concert... I did not know which stop to get off so I got off where I saw people getting off that had the purple Stonefest wristbands... Turned out I should have got out earlier. But I eventually found the entrance (with the help of some Aussie dude) and then I saw the end of Rocket Science's (Australia) set. They seemed alright. After during the break I tried to message the people of the Something For Kate forum but they said they were out to eat and will find me when they got back. After a short break, I had moved up front and the Von Bondies (USA) came on. They were good. They brought a lot of energy! The singer was neat... The girl gitarist always changed her shirt. One was red and the other black and almost every song she'd have the other colour on. Their songs sounded a lot alike though! I did enjoy their set. At 20h30 there was another break and at around 21h it was time for Something For Kate (SFK)!! I had not met the people from the forum, they could not get to me or something. I did not care much at this point, I wanted to see SFK! I was near the front, on the left side of the stage. The show started with Anarchitect . I thought it was a great start with its faster and slower bits. They went straight through to the next song Captain . I liked this song a lot live and so did everyone else… Paul was singing “At a million miles” and then you just heard the crowd singing “an hour”. In the first chorus, the power just went out!!!! It seemed like it was planned so the crowd cheered on. They then walked off stage and there was a bit of confusion. The crowd started to chant and wanted some more music! The power was gone for about 5 minutes total. Paul came back “Can you hear me?”, crowd “Yeaaaa”, Paul “The generator died so we're getting that fixed […] Anybody's who's ever seen SFK before knows that I barely put sentences together between songs so the fact that I am standing up here today without anybody else on the stage and that I'm actually talking to you is something of a miracle (miracle, I think that's what he said)”. The crowd cheered him on. Then we heard the sound of instruments again! They took off from where the power had failed, and it was awesome! I was so scared the power would go off again! I had come this far to see them!! After that song they went on straight away with Hawaiian Robots . I liked the song a lot towards the end, the last chorus and the beat that led to the next song Three Dimensions . After the first 4 lines, just as Paul was done singing “I'm not satisfied, I want something more”, the power went out again and this time we knew what was happening! I wanted more too but it was not going to happen for a few minutes. The crowd started to clap asking for more. Paul came out with the second guitarist and they entertained us. Paul did rap and the guitarist breakdanced. It was quite amusing! About 4 minutes into the black out, the instruments were making sounds again and Paul explained “Just so that you all understand, this is a problem with a generator, nothing to do with us… The generator keeps going, it may happen again, but that's life. We haven't played since July, we've been looking forward to this more than anything, we haven't played a gig for a couple of months so we hope it doesn't happen again but if it does we'll just have to (something like deal with it), but anyways…” and then they started again with Three Dimensions. It was funny… It reminded me of bands that are just practicing in their garage and then stop to talk and then take off from where they had left. It is not something you normally see in a concert…! After came the cover Under a Killing Moon . It was the first time I heard this song but it sounded alright, especially near the end of the song! Paul “Thank you very much!” They then continued with Best Weapon . It sounded much like the CD version so I just thought it was alright. Paul again “Thank you very much. As I said before, we haven't played in a few months so… It feels good! Just saw this song on the set list and oh the irony, it is called Electricity.“ And off they went playing Electricity . And the electricity stayed on so I was able to enjoy the song! Paul “I thought if the power was going to go, it was going to go during that song… But I just think the universe it always trying to make it welcome here for me (or something like that).” And then Jerry Stand Up was next. This song was really good live, they really gave it all they had it seemed! They went straight on playing Déjà Vu . I think he changed the lyrics a little bit, saying “Shit just happens” instead of “and the world just happens”… I'm not sure though! I liked this song a lot live! Paul “Thank you very much! We'll play a song off our third album which is called Echolalia, it's called Say Something.” And off it was with Say Something ! The guitar was funky in the chorus during this song! Paul “Thanks.” The next song was Anchorman . It was one of my favorites from the concert, it was very peaceful. This is the song that stuck in my head after the concert and the whole next day even! They then continued with a REM cover, The One I Love . It was good, I enjoyed it, but I'd rather hear their own songs than covers! Paul “Thank you. That of course is a song by REM. In my opinion, one of the most frightening songs ever written. Because it is very cruel. They're saying This one goes out to the one I love, a simple propt to occupy my time. It's pretty nasty. It's like Every Breath You Take by The Police, everyone thinks it's a love song. But we know [?…?]. It's like this song, everybody thinks this song is about me being a miserable bastard but actually [?…?].” They then played Monsters . By this time I was really enjoying the concert a lot and I knew it was going to be over soon and I did not want it to end! Paul “We have had a fucking fantastic time! […] I got to make that joke about Electricity. So it all worked out okay. We live to fight another day, that's the important thing. Thank you very much. Thank you for a fantastic couple of days, thank you to Stonefest for having us. We'll see you next time. Now, this is a song about between your bedroom and [?...?]” And they played Hallways to end the night. After that, they went off stage. The crowd clapped and asked for more. The lights were still off, no background music, so I was hoping they would come back to play some more! But then the sound guy came on stage and made a sign with his hand putting to his neck like he was cutting… To signal to the other sound/light dudes that it was all over. The crowd booed him off stage! And it was all over… After the gig, I met up with a few people from the forum for 5 minutes and then we all left. Shortly after I got a cab back to the hostel my ears still buzzing from the concert. |
